R&D Simulation System for Virtual Target Simulation in the Visual and Infrared Spectrum
The German MoD Technical Test Center for Information Technology and Electronics is currently implementing one of the world’s largest advanced dome based Hardware-in-the-Loop simulation facilities with high dynamics multispectral target representation. e.sigma Systems, Munich, is the prime contractor for the simulation systems and associated infrastructure.
The facility is used for virtual prototyping, evaluation and testing of optical sensor systems and fire control systems for tanks, air defense systems and missiles. The system is used to investigate the detection and tracking behavior of optronic systems, the system behavior with multiple targets, the dynamic and precision of target assignment and the system behavior under optronic countermeasures.
The degree of reality in the simulation is that of a typical target between 500 m and 5000 m distance, with its proper visual and IR signatures, including flares.
